Have you ever walked into a hotel room and the picture frame is hung too low or high, too close to a door frame or oddly spaced on the wall? If you have, it probably drove you crazy the whole time you were there. Do you question the motive of the hanger, asking why would someone do that? It was so close to being aligned, it’s not intentional crooked, it’s not artsy it’s just off—in a bad way.
We’re taught our whole life to either be different and individual or at least notice what’s different. Our brains are pre-wired that way too and we all have a keen sense of seeing what’s off whether it is physically tangible or even emotively intangible. Think of those gut instincts we get when we meet someone.
There’s multiple ways of looking at such crooked situations. The obsessive Feng Shui gurus will endless want to nudge every square inch of the wall or room or life until there is complete synchronized harmony. While the other half will gladly overlook the imperfections or simply chalk it up to the human touch and file it away with knot holes, crooked floors and other not-so perfect circumstances.
Maybe in the end, it’s not about the result. Does it matter that something is off? Do we question the intention? The good news is that we notice, and we’re equipped to change, discuss or even defend any harmless flaws that come our way. With that, you can relax and take comfort in something that is rarely described as crooked, a bed, and sleep your anxieties away. //
