Just Can’t Get Enough

How does music inform your creativity? Do you use it to get ideas flowing or your blood pumping? Is it a major tool for you to do your work and how often are you conscious of it’s influence?

These questions have tickled my brain for years as music is such a driving force in my creative realm. It also happens to be the subject of a new book I am working on, That Song Saved My Life, a worldwide survey of mostly creatives submitting their top 10 songs and how those songs feed their soul and fuel their creativity.
We’re in the middle of conducting surveys now so check back for more info.

But the power of music has so many angles and points of entry. Whether it is different moods and the atmosphere they create or how the narrative and lyrics touch us in various ways, there is no question that music is a strong character in every story we engage in.

With all music, there always seems to be an explosion of feeling—it even takes us over at times. There seems to be something to say with the tempo and beat and how it syncs up, pushes or conflicts with our own rhythm at that moment.

Whatever your groove, think about your music more closely and how you are using it intentionally. Dial it one way or the other or mix it up to see if you get different results. Or simple ignore it all and let the random sounds of the universe randomize your life. //
