Microsoft Corporation is a technology company that builds software products including the Windows line of operating systems, Microsoft 365 suite, and the Edge web browser. Their mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.
The D&I team at Microsoft needed an experience that could inspire and teach employees at events about difficult situations and experiences that their very own leaders or colleagues had gone through and were willing to share. Many thanks to our exhibit partners, Dialogue and 3D designer, Kevin Fitzgerald for their collaborations.
CLIENT: MICROSOFT // DISCIPLINES: INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT
+ Strategy
The exhibit design of sharing recorded leadership and colleague stories needed an open flow for traffic as it existed at various events in their marketplace and trade show areas. A symmetrical design with dual entrances at either end allowed attendees to enter from the outside-in where wrap-around LED screens displayed video and quoted content from the interviewed subjects. At timed intervals, a larger LED screen in the center of exhibit space played full versions of interviews tailored to various diversity and inclusion topics. Benches were provided inside and out for attendees to view, reflect and discuss the content. The graphic concept of the “backs of heads” on the exterior panels conveyed that Everyone was a person first—before we knew their story and position with Microsoft—therefore refraining anyone from passing any judgement or assumptions. The act of sharing personal and difficult stories while still achieving great success in their careers within the company, had a profound impact on employee attendees.
